STABCOR Project for Safer Nuclear Installations

STABCOR Project for Safer Nuclear Installations

In order to improve the safety of nuclear facilities, the NUVIA / Campenon Bernard consortium and EDF have developed a set of solutions aimed at confining the corium, isolating it from the water and cooling it, thus limiting the consequences in case of a hypothetical serious accident. Some of the solutions developed are based on mechanical equipment designed to operate in extreme radiological and thermal environments without human, electrical or hydraulic assistance. Implemented in reactor buildings that are inaccessible during operation, this equipment ensures continuity of safety requirements. After a study and test phase, the NUVIA and CAMPENON BERNARD NUCLEAIRE teams, united under the name ‘Stabcor’, are deploying the solutions on the unit 1 of the Dampierre en Burly nuclear power plant this summer.
