The project, carried out in cooperation with the general contractor of the construction, SMP Vodohospodářské stavby a.s. and STAVOS Brno, a.s. for the investor ČEZ, a.s., included the installation of a pair of motorized lead-shielded gates with manual electric control, equipped with an automatic emergency braking system and a set of safety measures providing the necessary protection for the operating personnel. The design of the door is intended to prevent the possible spread of ionising radiation outside the internal area of the irradiation room during the handling of the ionising radiation sources inside the irradiation room, which can reach up to several TBq.
The unique design incorporates a unique internal composition of lead plates of different sizes and shapes to optimize the shielding factor. The resulting gates, measurign over 3 × 3 m and weighing almost 8 tonnes, are the only ones of their kind in the Dukovany NPP.
